These sessions will provide a window into the priorities, challenges, and innovations of IGHS collaborators in-country. Speaker Biography Prof. Julius Otieno Oyugi is a Kenyan microbiologist and virologist with extensive experience in infectious disease research, laboratory science, academic leadership, and global health training. He is a Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Nairobi and serves as Deputy Director of the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID). Prof. Oyugi received his PhD in Microbiology/Virology from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 2008, following an MSc in Virology from John Moores University, Liverpool, United Kingdom and advanced training in Virology and Medical Laboratory Sciences in Kenya. His career spans more than two decades and includes research, teaching, laboratory management, and leadership roles at the University of Nairobi and international institutions. Prior to his current professorial role, Prof. Oyugi served as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Nairobi, as well as Laboratory Manager at UNITID. He has also contributed to international infectious disease capacity building as Training Coordinator for the CIHR International Infectious Disease and Global Health Training Program. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Research Technician with the Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI). Prof. Oyugi has held leadership and academic appointments in both Kenya and Canada and has been involved in strengthening infectious disease research and laboratory capacity. He is a member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board and has been affiliated with the American Society for Microbiology. Question?
