Join the UCSF Center for Global Nursing on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 (12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time) for a conversation with Lisa Thompson, PhD, FNP, FAAN, and Hina Raheel, PhD, MSc, RN, as they discuss their recent Environmental Research Letters publication, “Behavioral interventions related to plastic waste management in low-and middle-income countries: a systematic review using the Behavior Change Wheel and the Theoretical Domains Framework.” Together, they will explore behavioral interventions for plastic waste management in low-resource countries and how the Behavior Change Wheel and Theoretical Domains Framework can inform more effective and sustainable approaches to behavior change. Lisa Thompson, PhD, FNP, FAAN, Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing, brings more than 25 years of expertise in global environmental health research, with a particular focus on reducing household air pollution from solid fuel cookstoves. She is a co-investigator on the Household Air Pollution Intervention Network (HAPIN) trial in Guatemala, part of the largest multi-country randomized controlled trial focused on household air pollution. Hina Raheel, PhD, MSc, RN, is a Global Health and Women’s Health researcher who recently completed her PhD in Nursing at Emory University. Her research focuses on how environmental exposures, behavioral interventions, and social determinants influence women’s empowerment. Supported by a NIEHS F31 Predoctoral Fellowship and the AACN Jonas Scholars Program, her doctoral research examined the impact of a community-based intervention to reduce household plastic burning on women’s empowerment in Guatemala.
