The Transformative Power of Lifestyle Medicine Many common chronic diseases share underlying biological mechanisms, creating opportunities for interventions that address more than one condition at a time. This Grand Rounds will examine the pathways that contribute to the development and progression of chronic diseases. Attendees will also review evidence from randomized controlled trials showing how lifestyle changes can influence these shared mechanisms. Speakers: Dean Ornish, MD, is a professor of medicine at UCSF Health and founder and president of the nonprofit Preventive Medicine Research Institute. His research on chronic diseases helped establish intensive cardiac rehabilitation as a Medicare-covered benefit. Ornish is also the author of seven nationally bestselling books and has been recognized by TIME as a TIME 100 Innovator and one of its 100 Most Influential People in Health.
