Join us on October 29 for an introduction to the Firearms Industry Documents Archive (FAIDA), co-hosted by the Industry Documents Library (IDL) and the Firearms Accountability Initiative (FAI). We’ll discuss how to navigate the new FAIDA archive, and IDL archivists will be available to answer your research questions. 👉 Register at https://tiny.ucsf.edu/FAIDAWebinar12 This session will be recorded. For more information and to view the documents, visit https://www.industrydocuments.ucsf.edu/firearms/collections/fleet-farm-collection/ Background information: In August 2026, IDL published a new Firearms Industry Document Archive (FAIDA) of nearly 700 documents. The documents were obtained during Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison's 2022 lawsuit, which alleged that Fleet Farm, a 50-store chain that sells firearms, hunting equipment, and other goods in five Midwest states, negligently sold firearms to straw buyers (people who purchase firearms on behalf of another person) and contributed to gun trafficking in Minnesota. One of the guns sold to a straw purchaser was later fired in a mass shooting, which killed one person and injured 14. Under the February 2026 settlement, Fleet Farm agreed to significant policy changes to help prevent straw purchases, pay a $1 million penalty, and publicly release the records that are now in FAIDA. The Firearms Accountability Initiative (FAI) is a collaborative, nonpartisan effort to transform the gun violence epidemic by making firearm deaths and injuries the gun industry’s problem. FAI seeks to catalyze accountability in the courtroom and in the court of public opinion, challenging the behavior of reckless firearm industry actors that endanger our communities.
