EHS Candidate Visit | Dr. Min Liu: Presentation and Q&A "Functional Exposomics: Decoding Mechanisms and Drivers of Human-Relevant Chemical Mixture Effects" Dr. Min Liu is an Assistant Project Scientist at the West Coast Metabolomics Center at the University of California, Davis. She earned her Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and is an environmental health scientist and analytical chemist whose research seeks to establish a functional exposomics framework that bridges multi-omics, exposure science, and mechanistic toxicology to understand the complex biological impacts of real-world environmental exposures. Her work has developed experimental and computational approaches to characterize environmental mixture effects, identify toxicant transformation products, and prioritize chemical drivers within the human exposome. Her long-term vision is to advance environmental health sciences by building scalable exposome-informed platforms for mixture-informed risk assessment, mechanistic toxicology, and precision prevention.In her presentation, Dr. Liu will describe how the framework of functional exposomics can help address these challenges by integrating human biomonitoring data, multi-omics profiling, and computational approaches to map the downstream biological effects of complex chemical mixtures. She will discuss a series of studies focused on developing strategies to identify toxicant transformation products, characterize interactions among co-occurring contaminants, evaluate complex mixtures at human-relevant exposure levels, and prioritize key chemical drivers within the human exposome. Together, these findings demonstrate how functional exposomics can bridge environmental exposures with molecular mechanisms, providing a foundation for future mixture-informed risk assessment, chemical prioritization, and prevention-oriented environmental health research.
