“Intellectual virtues” are the character strengths of good thinkers and learners. At LMU, we call these the “Virtues of the Lion Mind,” which include curiosity, open-mindedness, humility, autonomy, courage, and perseverance. Philosophy professors Jason Baehr and Dan Speak will explain this “big idea” and how it relates to the purpose of a university education. They will also provide an overview of the LMU Intellectual Character Initiative, a three-year project funded by a grant of nearly $1 million from the Educating Character Initiative at Wake Forest University. Participants will have an opportunity to assess some of their own intellectual character strengths and limitations. Part of the LMU Family Weekend series of events.
