LMU Welcomes Designer and Educator Lefteris Heretakis for KaleidoLA Lecture The Department of Art and Art History at Loyola Marymount University will welcome Lefteris Heretakis, MA RCA, for a special KaleidoLA lecture, “Beyond Automation: Design, Judgment & Human Responsibility,” on September 28, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Burns 217, Drawing and Painting Studio. Heretakis is an internationally active designer, educator, and podcaster whose work spans visual communication, design education, publishing, branding, and drawing. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, he has taught visual communication in the United Kingdom and internationally, including in China, Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, Latvia, and Poland. He is the founder of The New Art School and the Design Education Forum, as well as the host and producer of the Design Education Talks podcast. His work focuses particularly on how traditional visual skills, observation, drawing, and human judgment can remain central to design education amid rapid technological change. The lecture will address the changing role of designers in the age of automation and AI, asking what remains distinctly human in visual communication when many technical processes can increasingly be automated. The event is presented as part of KaleidoLA and ART 1010 Freshman Workshop and is open to all Studio Arts students.
