At our regular, every-other-week meetings, we will have group discussions, unguided social time, small group discussions, presentations, and occasionally invited professors from Loyola University Chicago. Announcements are made and attendees from previous meetings and outings are invited to summarize them for the rest of the group. Sometimes, when relevant to our topic and mission, there may also be a short video, board game, or conversation exercise to help our members simulate or better understand and internalize the concepts we are dealing with that week. When this is the case, it will be mentioned. At this particular meeting, we are having our opening meeting of the club. So we will focus on setting a social container and boundaries around healthy partisanship/disagreement, explaining the club’s purpose and guiding principles, and spend a little less time on this week’s topic of what democracy and free society means.
