CETLOE is excited to announce our first-ever Open Classrooms Week this fall, Oct. 5-9. We're inviting faculty to open their doors and welcome one to two colleagues to catch a glimpse of teaching in action. This isn't an evaluation or a formal observation; it's a community-building exchange designed to spark conversation and showcase the diverse teaching talent across our university. Course: Inventing to Learn: Teaching and Learning with Maker Technologies Session Description: This course employs an innovative mastery-oriented instructional design in which students' work is (largely) self-directed and self-paced. Classes begin with a brief full-group activity, which will lead into a related mini-lecture on the topic, which is typically related to theory and pedagogy. For most of the rest of class, students work independently or in self-selected groups on content modules, all of which conclude with hands-on demonstrations of skills learned in the modules. Classes conclude with a full-group share of digital and physical artifacts the students produced. Class that week is likely to focus on productive/unproductive successes and failures as a framework for considering the role of failure in learning and student technology use. Note: To ensure that we do not fill a classroom, the room number will be provided after registration via email
