CETLOE is excited to announce our first-ever Open Classrooms Week this fall, Oct. 5-9. We're inviting faculty to open their doors and welcome one to two colleagues to catch a glimpse of teaching in action. This isn't an evaluation or a formal observation; it's a community-building exchange designed to spark conversation and showcase the diverse teaching talent across our university. Course: Culture, Equity & Responsive Pedagogy Session Description: During the week of observation (Oct. 5-9) I anticipate teaching a class on language and power in which we explore how the complexities of language, identity, power, and linguicism. Students will delve into a chapter by Gloria Anzaldua and engage in a small group analysis of sections of the chapter. The overarching purpose of this lesson is to engage students (who are future educators) in exploring how language is deeply connected to our identities, histories, and current social, cultural, and political context. Hence, teachers need to explore their own language ideologies to better shape the educational experiences they provide their students. Note: To ensure that we do not fill a classroom, the room number will be provided after registration via email
