CETLOE is excited to announce our first-ever Open Classrooms Week this fall, Oct. 5-9. We're inviting faculty to open their doors and welcome one to two colleagues to catch a glimpse of teaching in action. This isn't an evaluation or a formal observation; it's a community-building exchange designed to spark conversation and showcase the diverse teaching talent across our university. Course: General Principles of Chemistry 2 Session Description: This session is part of CHEM 1212, focusing on the unit of chemical kinetics. The lesson occurs mid-unit, after students have been introduced to rate laws and reaction mechanisms. By the end of the session, students will be able to interpret rate laws, determine reaction order from experimental data, and connect reaction mechanisms to observed kinetics. The class will begin with a brief review of prior concepts to activate prior knowledge and address common misconceptions. This will be followed by a short interactive lecture introducing methods for determining reaction order using experimental data. Students will then work in small groups on guided problem-solving exercises to apply these methods, allowing for peer discussion and formative assessment. The session will conclude with a whole-class debrief and a short formative quiz to assess understanding and reinforce key concepts. Note: To ensure that we do not fill a classroom, the room number will be provided after registration via email
